Why Prediction Markets Matter for SEO

Prediction markets are one of the hottest topics in US business in 2026. On the off chance you're not aware, these platforms - led by Kalshi and Polymarket - mix financial trading with wagering on the outcomes of a huge variety of real-world events, from sports to politics to the financial sector. A model that has seen them achieve massive success in the past four years.

Towards the end of 2025, prediction markets hit a total trading volume of $5 billion a month. By mid 2026, they hit $50 billion. Going back to 2024, they traded around $9 billion that year. From $750 million a month to $50 billion in just two years - an astonishing rise.

In terms of search interest, in 2026 many terms related to prediction markets have been rated 95+ or even at 100 on the Google Trends search index for months at a time. Which, if you know SEO, is no mean feat. In terms of pure numbers, the term "Kalshi" pulls in some 823,000 searches a month as of 2026. Notable spikes in prediction market search traffic were seen during the 2024 Presidential Election and then the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

1. They're Huge Business - and Growing

Where there is big business, the SEO sector follows. Kalshi, Polymarket - and now other competitors like DraftKings Predictions and FanDuel Predict - are searched for by millions of people a month collectively.

The heady mix of (technically not) betting, financial markets and the sheer diversity of contracts available has seen these platforms become some of the hottest properties in US business.

Being federally regulated under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) as financial trading, rather than gambling, these markets can offer contracts like "Who Will Win the 2027 Super Bowl?" across the US.

The FIFA World Cup was a particularly big event for prediction markets, boosting total trading volume monthly above $50 billion for the first time. While Polymarket does offer sports contracts, it tends to focus on other areas like politics, crypto and pop culture events. Meanwhile, in some months up to 80% of Kalshi's trading volume has come from sports.

The overlap is already visible in search content. Sportsbook Review, for example, publishes a guide to Polymarket bonus offers that covers many of the same questions traditionally associated with sportsbook acquisition content, including welcome incentives, eligibility and account funding.

That does not make prediction markets legally identical to sportsbooks, but it does show how similar the search journey can be. Publishers that already compete for sports betting and gambling-related queries are increasingly targeting prediction-market searches as well.

This fact has not escaped the attention of lawmakers and regulators in states with existing sports betting markets. Kalshi (and by extension the entire prediction markets model across the US) is currently under legal challenge. The state of New Jersey - somewhat ironically, the very state that was key in pushing for regulated sports betting back in 2018 - has taken its case against Kalshi to the Supreme Court.

The Garden State is set to argue that the prediction market model is actually gambling, and that state regulators should be licensing and taxing them as such. The outcome, if the Supreme Court takes the case, which seems likely, will have far-reaching consequences for this hugely growing sector.

Interestingly, this court case has seemingly given Kalshi a boost in US search volume, after declining search interest from its peak during the World Cup earlier this year. Although Kalshi appears to have rival Polymarket beat for search interest among Americans, Polymarket dominates the search in Europe and other growing markets.

2. Pop Culture and Political Markets Give Them an SEO Edge

SEO has long evolved around keyword clusters that are usually slowly refined but occasionally shaken up majorly. With prediction markets, targeted content can now be generated for new keywords on almost every event and contract offered.

For example, ranking for "Polymarket fed rate cut" could be as useful as ranking for something like "prediction markets", as it has multiple functions across several search-intensive categories.

This is partly because prediction markets have contracts available trading on, well, basically anything. An idea that has consistently been part of the marketing behind the platforms. For example, at Polymarket right now you can trade on:

  1. Will the US interest rate be hiked again in 2026?
  2. Will Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell go to jail before 2027?
  3. Price of BTC at end of day
  4. Who will win the 2027 NBA Championship?
  5. How many views will Mr Beast's next video get in the first week?

Polymarket even has markets on Google search behavior, such as who will be the most searched person in the world in 2026 or what the most searched movie will be.

For SEO, this means a huge wealth of surrounding content that can be mined for traffic. With every big global event, lots of people will be looking for prediction market-related takes - current and historical odds, changing prices, liquidity and volume. Or even just basic explainers on prediction markets, and why they're important.

3. Prediction Markets Offer Freshness, Accuracy and Probability as Truth

Prediction markets have also carefully positioned themselves as a utility that offers value to the economy beyond being a betting market. The concept originally comes from political polling tools, born out of research proving people are more likely to be truthful about voting intentions or perspectives when money is on the line.

Kalshi has called itself a "Truth Engine" in public marketing before, and prediction markets have built partnerships with many different entertainment sectors - from the awards shows to sports media - where they incorporate their odds into broadcasts as live predictions for fans.

In the world of AI and increasing search volumes through LLM tools, being able to pull up a piece that references a concrete market opinion price on a subject over vague analysis, could prove very useful in the emerging SEO-related fields of answer engine or generative engine optimization (GEO).

Why Prediction Markets Create Unusually Valuable Search Queries

The SEO opportunity is not limited to searches for Kalshi or Polymarket themselves. Prediction markets sit at the intersection of several different kinds of intent.

A single major event can create searches for the event itself, current prediction-market prices, historical price movements, platform comparisons, trading volume, market explanations and questions about how a contract resolves. Commercial queries such as promo codes and platform reviews can exist alongside informational searches about probabilities and news.

That creates a particularly competitive search environment. Publishers from finance, gambling, sports, crypto and mainstream news can all target different parts of the same topic cluster. When an event begins trending, they may also be competing for visibility within hours rather than over the months normally associated with traditional evergreen SEO.

Certainly, some professional forecasters do use prediction markets already. They are also increasingly used by legitimate financial institutions like hedge funds, insurance brokers and investment banks. Even journalists now cite prediction market probabilities as a quickfire way of quantifying market opinion.

For SEO, this creates an interesting opportunity. Prediction markets - whether you agree with that analysis or not - are now widely considered at least a tool of interest when forecasting global events.

Pair this with Google's search systems that promote "freshness" and the latest updated information during queries, and you have potential for content that captures the richness of an ever-changing market dynamic while piggybacking on the trust signals these platforms provide.

On the other hand, creators and businesses do need to be careful because Google does not rate spam content that targets large numbers of pages across programmatic keyword strings. The important part is to ensure that all content linking to prediction markets is useful, with unique insight or analysis that hits Google's E-E-A-T frameworks.

Marketers also need to understand the differences between the platforms. For example, you might consider Kalshi and Polymarket's regional audience differences. Or you might look at Kalshi's larger focus on sports and decide political or pop culture keyword targeting pages are better aimed at Polymarket, and vice versa.

Potential Problems and How Search Engines Might Respond

Despite their huge search interest, volumes and uniquely attractive facets for SEO marketing, the prediction market sector is not without its risks. The ongoing court cases against Kalshi in the US - which will likely have implications for the future of all prediction markets - are one potential pitfall.

Another is the platforms' associations with insider trading, which could threaten the integrity or perceived integrity of the markets.

For one example of this, in 2026 a former Google engineer was charged with insider trading after allegedly using Polymarket to make $1.2 million trading on Google search trend contracts while he had access to privileged information.

His biggest bets were on the aforementioned Most Searched Person contract, in which he correctly predicted that rapper (and alleged murderer) D4vd would top the lists despite Polymarket traders only giving him a 0.2% chance of doing so at the time.

Both Polymarket and Kalshi say they are cracking down on insider trading on the platforms, and have banned and fined individuals who they found to be doing so.

For SEO professionals, prediction markets present an opportunity but also the potential to go a little wild. The massive variety of search terms that can link to prediction markets could encourage a "throw anything" attitude towards creating targeted content - a problem that is only exacerbated by AI production tools.

Instead, the winner of this new SEO battleground might be those companies and platforms that can effectively work out rising interest in prediction market contracts before they hit Google Trends, and match valuable, insightful content to prediction market subjects people are actually looking for. Predicting the prediction markets, as it were.
